Share your story

For the longest time now, at the end of every post, I write:
Share your story and your life…

People skills…

I believe that your ability to do multicultural worship depends heavily on your people skills, specifically your people skills with all cultures, not just one. How else will you know what you’re planning to put in the service is honoring to them?

Furthermore, your ability to draw out someone’s story, or testimony, depends on how much they trust you.  Sometimes this happens right away, but usually it takes a long time to fully hear someone’s story.  Even then, there’s always something to learn.

Sharing time…

Over a week ago I was in Harrisburg, PA spending time with multicultural worship leaders from the East Coast.  A couple different ethnicities were represented.

My favorite part, I have to say, was when everyone shared their testimony of how they got to the conference, their church, why they are pursuing multicultural worship. (You’ll get a chance to hear everyone’s story over the next couple of months.)

But think about for a moment what you’re doing when you ask someone to share their story.

What you’re really saying…

You’re saying to someone “you’re important” that “I value you” and “I’m willing to sit here and hear your heart.”  Those are things are that uncommon in today’s day and age, right?

We’re all so busy with our careers, taking the kids to their soccer game, cooking dinner.  And, believe me, those things are important.  I do those things too.

But when you take time of your day to really listen to some, especially someone who comes from a different culture than you, or even the same culture, it speaks volumes into their life.

Lesson…

Take some time to call a friend or make a new friend and really take time to listen to them.  AND…ask questions! Don’t forget to be vulnerable and share your story as well.

Share your story and your life…
