Baby steps, really?

The challenge…
Recent conversations I’ve had with church planters and worship leaders have brought about the question: Why can’t I just jump into full on multicultural worship?
Part of the challenge with this is people starting out in multicultural worship have a big vision of what they imagine worship will be like…and that’s great. It’s good to have a vision of where your church is needs to go.
But, the problem is that you’ll end up losing a lot of people or leave them confused.
What needs to happen…
I just want to remind you, just like I remind myself every day; we are in the very early stages of biblical multicultural worship. That being the case, several things need to happen over time:
1. Re-education for our congregation on why we’ve decided to pursue multicultural worship.
2. Taking baby steps in incorporating various styles/languages into our Sunday morning service.
3. Building a bridge between different church cultures and ethnicities.
4. Casting the vision of multicultural worship again and again and again.
I joke around a lot about how multicultural worship won’t become the “norm” until my son grows up, and he’s almost 2 yrs. old. But the fact of the matter is that it’s probably true.
We’ll eventually get to a point where a good majority of churches will catch on to the biblical vision of multicultural worship. We’re probably about 40 yrs. from that…maybe.
God’s working right now…
But we don’t have to wait to see what God’s doing now as we make intentional steps toward multicultural worship.
I already see all kinds of people from different backgrounds, neighborhoods, social status coming together at church.
There’s even a sense of excitement as we honor various gifts in the body of Christ.
Trust me, I want to go full speed ahead, but I can’t.
Proverbs 19:21 says:
Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.
Lesson…
Be patient with your church. Be patient with your friends. Be patient with your peers. And be patient with God as he unfolds His plans.
Share your story and your life…
Sincerely,
