Hiring/recruiting versus training your own team?
Is it better to hire/recruit people to bring diversity or is it better to train your own team? Peter Park explains why it’s better to take the “slower” path.
The Decision to Hire Musicians
Some churches need to use tracks to bring diversity to the styles of music they would like to see on Sunday mornings. Other churches are blessed with people in the congregation that have great musical talent, so they’re able to play in different multiple styles of music. Then there are other churches that have hired talent musicians to fill the missing elements in their worship service.
Jeff Rakes, Pastor of Worship and Administration at Grace Church PCA in Delaware, has hired musicians to bring more of the gospel style to his church. He explained that their organ player lived in a small apartment, but he had just bought a Hammond B3 Organ. There wasn’t really any space to store it in his apartment so, he approached Grace Church about keeping it there.
Soon after that the decision was made to hire to him to play organ. Jeff says that the Hammond B3 Organ helps make almost anything sound gospel.
Basically, the point I want to make today is that you can use music tracks, the people in your congregation, or hiring musicians. You should use all the resources you have available to you to help people experience multicultural worship.
Sometimes it means swallowing your pride to use a resource you’ve previously rejected, like I did with using music tracks, but it’s really not about you. It’s about worshipping God.
Has your church hired musicians? How do you think this decision has affected visitors coming to your church?
