Simple Multicultural Worship Sets

It would be awesome to have a full band with tons of vocalists singing every part, but this isn’t always possible, especially every Sunday. I’m part of a relatively small church, yet we have a number of people on the worship team.

Plan B…

I bring this topic up because being part of a small church there’s always a good possibility that the people you had hoped to be on the schedule can’t make it.  This could be because of work, school, or in this case, a wedding.

Two couples from our congregation are getting married this weekend and the next, which leaves the worship team a little short handed.  In fact, it just so happens to affect the week I lead because many of our worship team members will have to travel to another state for that particular wedding.

So, what’s a multicultural worship leader to do?
Step One: Don’t panic.
Step Two: Just have a simple worship set.

Perhaps God planned this particular week to be a little lighter and restful.  I have a few songs in mind that are easy to do with a few people.  But I’ve gotten to this point only after years of hard work with multicultural worship.

You have to build up your list of songs that you can go back to that are simple, accessible, and easy to do whether it’s a song in a different style or language. This is especially important if you don’t have a big worship team.

Resource…

I want to recommend three albums to help you start thinking about some simple worship sets:
Proskuneo Ministries – Venga Tu Reino (Spanish) and Your Kingdom Come (English)
Billy Gaines – Ten Thousand Angels Album

Lesson…

As you pursue multicultural there will be some great models to look at to strive for multicultural worship, but your worship set is probably going to look different.  Don’t feel pressure to have some sort of big production.  Simple is best.

Share your story and your life…

Sincerely,
Peter Park
